Harish Chandra Mehra (14 years old) was part of a scout performance on Ramilla ground at Red Fort, Delhi in front of respected PM Jawaharlal Nehru. In an instance, a decorated tent (shamiana) caught fire due to a short circuit. Harish rushed to save the hundreds of trapped people immediately; he took his knife and tore the burning tent.
It made Nehru announce bravery awards and Harish became the first awardee on Feb 4th, 1958.

National Bravery Awards Selection Process
Do you want to nominate children for this event? Then, be concerned about applications. ICCW takes applications from the officially approved agencies including district and local governments, child welfare councils, and school authorities.
Send your applications before September 30th and the awarding committee will finalize kids as per their eligibility criteria. The ICCW committee encloses members from non-governmental and governmental organizations. It includes higher officials like President Secretariats, Vice-President, The Central Social Welfare Board, All India Radio, Doordarshan, SOS Children’s Village of India, The Indian police, and the National Bal Bhavan.
About Event
Every awarding ceremony is unique from others. In that instance, National Bravery awards cheer the courageous souls and applaud the valor act.
It is announced on Children’s Day (November 14th) or in January. On Republic Day, the entire awardees participate in the Parade at Rajpath. Later that evening, the President hosts a reception and the Prime Minister bestows the prize to them.
