What Is Civilian Awards ?

The civilian award honors their personality and achievements in their field. The Indian civilian Award established in the year 1954 and accolades given by the president of the Republic of India. Also, the list of civilian awards is mentioned below in a detailed manner.

1. Bharat Ratna– First highest civilian award and awarded for outstanding performance.

2. Padma Vibhushan– Second highest prestigious award and is honored for distinguished and excellent service.

3. Padma Bhushan– Third Degree of Honor in different services of a high order.

4. Padma Shri– Fourth Degree of Honor in any field including the service rendered by the government. 

1. Bharat Ratna Award

The Bharat Ratna founded on January 2, 1954, is India’s highest and most popular civilian award. Moreover it is honor to the people who achieved outstanding acquirement’s in science, arts, literature, and public service.In India, the first Bharat Ratna award honors Dr. C.V. Raman. Besides the recommendations are suggested only by the prime minister to the president of India. Any person gets these accolades without distinction of race, occupation, caste, and religion. There are no formal recommendations to nominate. Also, only three people maximum is awarded in Bharat Ratna every year. 

Award Description

The award is 5. 5 cm long, 4.7 cm wide, and 3 mm thick. It is toned with bronze and on its obverse is embossed a replica of the sun, 1.6 cm in diameter, also the words of the award, the emblem and motto of India embossed with Devanagari script. The sun and the rim are toned in platinum also the inscriptions are in burnished bronze.

Rules

As per article 18(1) of the constitution, the awards cannot be used as a prefix or suffix to the recipient’s name.

2. Padma Vibhushan

Padma Vibhushan instituted in the year 1954, and it is the second-largest civilian award in India. The award is confers to people with distinguished achievements in the field of arts, literature, science, and public service. The suggestion submitted during May and September to the Padma awards committee. Later the committee submits its final recommendation to the prime minister and president of India for further approval. The award winners announced on republic day.

Award Description

Although, this accolade has a circular shape with a geometric pattern superimposed on the circle-toned bronze and a lotus flower is embossed in the center of the circle. Also, the Padma and Vibhushan inscribed above, and the lotus flower is in Devanagari script. On the reverse side, it has the state emblem and state Motto.

Regulations

The conferral of the award is not consider as official without its publication in the Gazette. Also, the recipient awards are restored or revoked for both actions requiring the authority of the president.

3. Padma Bhushan

It is the third-highest civilian awards in India, given for exceptional service in any higher field including government. Also, there is no caste, religion, or age to get this award. If you have contributed to the world, the government itself nominates and honors you with the award. After many suggestion and research, the winner announced and honors by the president of India on republic day. 

Award Description

This award has a circular-shaped bronze-toned medallion; the lotus flower embossed on the obverse side of the medal, and the text Padma is written in Devanagari script and placed on the top. The text Bhusan is placed below the lotus. Also, the emblem of India and its motto are inscribed on the lower edge. 

Regulations

Accordingly, the recipient registered in the Gazette required surrendering their medals when their names are struck from the register.

4. Padma Shri

It can also spell Padma Shree, and it is the fourth-highest civilian award of the republic of India. It is instituted and confers for the recognition of the distinguished contribution of various fields such as arts, literature, science, acting, social service, medicine, and public services. This award is honors by the president of India every year during republic day on 26th January. Also, some people get awards who are non-citizens because their contribution to India is compared to others. Now India created an online nomination portal to make a common nomination for civilian awards and medals.

As with the above awards, the lotus placed in the center is toned with bronze also, written the text of Padma in Devanagari, and placed on the top, the word Shri is placed below the lotus.
